Orchard Oriole

Orchard Oriole

A pair of Orchard Orioles gather at Eastern Neck Island.

The Orchard Oriole (Icterus spurius) is a spring and summer inhabitant across the state of Maryland.

The Orchard variety of Oriole does not have the familiar orange tint of the Baltimore species, but rather a very yellow coat with black wings and white markings.

This bird has a common look that I can often mistake for some other species, but the photo featured here was taken along the butterfly trail at Eastern Neck Island.
