Ok. Is it just me, or does that scientific name looks like it came from a Coyote-Road Runner cartoon? “Sandwichensis?” Really?

It’s a sparrow, and there are a lot of sparrows out there, so to make sure you have a Savannah look for the bright yellow marking just above the eye and beak. That display will help you differentiate from other sparrows.

The photo above was taken at Millington Wildlife Management Area, but you could just as easily spy one of these at the feeder in your backyard.
